  • Do you offer a free tier for email?

    We do offer a free tier. You can create an account, import and sync your data, customize templates and emails, and use many of Klaviyo’s features for free. You can send 500 emails maximum to up to 250 contacts. You’ll be prompted to upgrade once you exceed that limit.

  • Do you offer a free tier for SMS?

    We do offer a free tier. You can create an account, import and sync your data, customize templates and emails, and use many of Klaviyo’s features for free. A free account also includes a complimentary phone number and up to 150 SMS messages, which you can use to reach up to 50 SMS contacts each month. You’ll be prompted to upgrade once you exceed that limit.

  • Do I need to purchase throughput?

    Short codes and toll-free numbers have the ability to increase throughput allowing your messages to continue to reach every recipient quickly as your SMS audience grows. Your throughput is automatically increased as your list grows and is included in the price of your SMS plan.

  • How many MMS messages can I send?

    With every SMS plan, you are allocated a maximum number of text messages you can send to your subscribers every month. Each MMS message (a text message over 160 characters or containing an image or GIF) counts as 3 messages, while each SMS message counts as 1 message.

  • What if I have more contacts than my plan allows, or need to send more email/SMS?

    Don’t worry. If you go over the number of contacts or messages in your email or SMS plan, we’ll give you the option to upgrade your plan (and we’ll send you a friendly email too). You’ll always be asked to confirm an account upgrade before it happens. You can upgrade email and SMS channels independently.

  • How do I pay?

    We accept all major credit cards and you can enter or update your payment details on your account page at any time.

  • How do I change my plan?

  • How does Klaviyo SMS pricing work?

    With Klaviyo SMS, you are charged monthly based on the number of contacts that receive at least one SMS/MMS message during your billing cycle. Your first 50 contacts are free. Then, you can upgrade to a paid plan as your list grows. Each plan includes a maximum number of text messages you can send your contacts during your billing period.

  • How do I set up an automatic refill? How does it work?

    From the SMS Billing page in Klaviyo, you can adjust how your SMS Balance is refilled. Under Refill Settings, you can opt in by setting the refill amount and minimum balance for your automatic refill option.

  • What is a short code and when do I need one?

    A short code is a 4-6 digit phone number that businesses use to deliver text messages to their customers. Short codes have a higher throughput than toll-free numbers, so if your business needs to send SMS messages to more than 95,000 people per month, we recommend upgrading from a complementary toll-free number to a short code. Once you reach the recommended sending volume, Klaviyo will reach out to help you secure a dedicated short code for your business. The short code is included at no additional cost with all SMS plans at the 95,000-recipient tier and above.

  • What if I want a short code before I reach 95,000 SMS recipients per month?

    The choice is yours. Any brand can request a short code and begin using it as soon as the application is approved by mobile carriers. The short code will come at an additional cost until you reach the tier of sending text messages to 95,000 recipients per month. (Some brands choose to start sending from a short code immediately to prevent having to change the number that customers receive their texts from when migrating from a toll-free number to a short code.)

  • Can I use SMS or Email independently, or do I need to buy both?

    You can choose to use each channel separately or together. Email and SMS each have their own pricing structure.
